Some Recommended Reading on Geopolitics

I was recently asked to recommend books about geopolitics. After I started thinking about the request it seemed important enough to share my thoughts with many people, not just the person who asked me. This blog is is my answer to that request.

There are probably 100 books on geopolitics. As an ex-academic I have no time for most "academics" in universities who write on these subjects. They know who pays their wages and want to keep their jobs. What they write is nothing more that sophisticated versions of the “official story” pronounced by politicians and repeated by our media. The books I recommend are by people who also write regular blogs and report on these issues.

Nobody writing on this subject has a perfect understanding of the details of geopolitics today. The people I recommend do not write the gospel truth, and some of their claims will be mistaken. Nevertheless they share a common belief that the economic, military and political systems dominated by the US only benefit the super-rich of the world. What the US calls the “free world” is in reality an Empire different from the British Empire only in method. Its goal is to extract wealth from all countries and allow it to be controlled by a handful of people who care nothing for the welfare of most of humanity. The people who work in our media and our universities do not share this belief. There are no doubt other useful books, but these are the ones I happen to know about at the moment.

After the list of books I explain why I have chosen each of these authors.

This map shows the formal geopolitical alliances that exist today. Notice that the map does not show the ANZUS alliance between the US, Australia, and New Zealand. It also does not show Japan as allied with the US - which it is - and the same is true for South Korea. So is this map imperfect or do Australian politicians have ultimate faith in a non-existing alliance? Was this map drawn up by and academic specialist in geopolitics?

America's "War on Terrorism"

Why Did I Choose These Authors?

F. William Engdahl – Engdahl grew up in Texas and after earning a degree in engineering and jurisprudence from Princeton University in 1966 (BA) and graduate study in comparative economics at the University of Stockholm from 1969 to 1970, he worked as an economist and freelance journalist in New York and in Europe. Engdahl began writing about oil politics with the first oil shock in the early 1970s. He has also been a long-time associate of the LaRouche movement which calls for a reform of the world financial system to encourage investment in the physical economy and suppress financial speculation. As well as having an excellent understanding of the oil business, his insight comes from an accidental discovery in the 1970's of a complete set of minutes from a Bilderberg Group meeting, a very secret event where the super-rich of the world get together to work out their plans for the world. This gave him the key to understanding the role of petrodollars in the US control of the world. (I have written three articles listed below on the petrodollar system and his works were one of my main sources.}

How Does the US Empire Control the World? Petrodollars Rule, Ok! (Part 1) http://australianvoice.livejournal.com/12523.html

Paul Craig Roberts – He is the highest placed ex-official of the US government who has a clear insight into the real workings of the Neo-Conservative, Neo-Liberal globalists who have taken control of the US after 9/11. This could be seen as a quiet coup in which a well-coordinated effort was made to change a whole range of policies in the US. The central policy of these people was to defend and extend US control of the whole world into the 21st century through what we now know as globalization, but was also described as the New World Order. Roberts was Assistant Secretary to the US treasury in the Reagan Administration and from that vantage point can see the US policies and actions as an insider. Most of us do not really know how the US works from the inside, but he does. He is one of those who did not agree with or go along with the new policies of the globalists.

The Saker
– His real name is Andrei Raevsky but writes as the Saker. He is a former long-serving NATO officer and a citizen of Switzerland. The other most important fact about him is that he comes from a anti-communist Russian family, and was active in working against the USSR early in his life. He has extensive knowledge of nuts and bolts military action, the workings of the security services, as well as a very good understanding of Russian and Soviet history up to the present. He is also an Russian Orthodox Christian which gives him a moral/philosophical framework to use in understanding what he sees. His central point is that the new Russia is not the old USSR, and it is not an evil empire as it is seen by many of the leaders of the West today. He thinks Russia just wants to be left alone to develop itself without the financial, political and military pressure put on it by the US and its puppets. Because China is also been put under the same pressure, they have formed a unique partnership which interconnects them and allows them to respond to the US plans to control the whole world. The first major success of this partnership is the defeat of the US in Syria. The US now knows it is not the only kid on the block. Trump has one way to respond to this - peacefully, and the Clintonite globalists have another - provoke a war.

Pepe Escobar is a Brazilian correspondent for Asia times. He specializes in Chinese politics and the oil wars in the Middle East. One of his central insights is that now, since 9/11 the US has operated as the Empire of Chaos. This means that the US deliberately plans to destroy any nation-state which does not bend to its will. They are destroyed by crushing the central government and its institutions, as in Iraq and Libya, so that oil etc can be exported but there is no political power capable of resisting or even taxing these activities, just harmless regional governments or tribes. This plan has been successful for years, but Russia, China and Iran have stopped the US plans in Syria.

Michel Chossudovsky
“Michel Chossudovsky (born 1946) is a Canadian economist and author. He is a professor of economics at the University of Ottawa and (since 2001) the president and director of the Centre for Research on Globalization. He has acted as an economic adviser to governments of developing countries and has worked as a consultant for international organizations including the United Nations and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. Chossudovsky and his work, especially with the Centre for Research on Globalization, are widely viewed as the stuff of fringe conspiracy theories by the academic mainstream in Canada.” (From Wikipedia.) This last sentence shows why I despise the “academic mainstream” in Canada and elsewhere. They are part of our controlled channels of information like the corporate media. If their mindless repetition of politically inspired lies is not a real conspiracy, I don't know what is.
